Today, two units of the Heavy Airlift Wing had a change of leadership.  At a ceremony presided over by Heavy Airlift Wing Commander, Colonel Keith Boone (USAF), Lt Col Tom-Ivar Punsvik (NOR) passed command of the Command and Control Squadron to Lt Col Bengt Friberg (SWE).  In the same ceremony, Cpt Cdr Costel Gavrila (ROU) relinquished the LSS flag to Lt Col Kjell-Arne Nilsen (NOR).  The ceremony was attended by Brig Gen Raaby (NOR), Mr Eddy Fonyodi, the Chargé d'affaires from the Swedish Embassy in Budapest, Mr Gunnar Borch, NATO Airlift Management Agency Program Manager, Lt Col Lazlo Gangler, Commander of Pápa Air Base, Mr. Tamas Unger, the Vice Mayor of Pápa, and the Norwegian and Swedish Defense Attachés from Budapest.

In his remarks at the event, Colonel Boone praised the leadership of Lt Col Punsvik and Cpt Cdr Gavrila and thanked their families for their support to the HAW mission.  He also reminded the attendees of the purpose of the Change of Command, “we will talk about the tremendous successes of those that have successfully completed their command tour.  But the focus must be on the future…to make the HAW mission, and the support for the HAW families, better and better in the future. That is the charge to the incoming commanders.”

The HAW welcomes Lt Col Friberg, his wife China and their daughters, as well as Lt Col Nilsen, his wife Sissel, and their sons to the SAC family and the Pápa community.
