Base open day attracted more than 10 000 visitors

1/7/2012 - PÁPA AIR BASE, Hungary – Pápa Air Base celebrated 75th anniversary of military flight in Pápa Air Base on the 1st July, 2012. More than 10 000 people visited the base open day on Sunday, in spite of the extremely hot weather.

Also Heavy Airlift Wing’s SAC-2 was on display, and caught a lot of attention by visitors, some of them from neighbouring countries Slovakia and Austria as well as from other parts of Hungary.

 

SAC-1, returning from a mission, arrived from Eindhoven, The Netherlands, at noon. To thousands’ of spectators’ delight, it made some extra turns before landing on the airfield.

 

The open day was a huge effort from Pápa Air Base, and it was a success: everything ran smoothly. There was aviation technology and static display show of several military aircrafts, including C-17, AN-26, MiG-21 fighter and helicopters. Also other military equipment, programs and exhibitions were on display, including military dog shows.
