A Wet Welcome Concludes the Final Flight
4/6/2011 - PÁPA AIR BASE, Hungary A giant bird landed on the Hungarian soil on a warm summer night. For the pilot maneuvering the C-17 bird, Colonel John Zazworsky, Commander of the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW), it was the both the his last mission as commander and the final landing of his Air Force career.

Hungarian soldiers safe back at home, HAW reaches 4 000 flight hours
4/4/2011 - PÁPA AIR BASE, Hungary Some 118 Hungarian soldiers returned home from their ISAF mission in Afghanistan late Friday night at Pápa Air Base and on that same redeployment flight the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) reached 4 000 flight hours.

The multinational air base community takes action to support the red sludge victims
16/12/2010 - PÁPA AIR BASE, Hungary - The toxic disaster in October in Western Hungary came as a shock also to a multinational air base community in Papa, which lies only 30 kilometres away from the disaster area. Many wanted to help and especially the spouse community took an active role in solving the methods to help the victims in the village of Kolontar.

Four airmen graduate from Mission Security Forces’ course
25/9/2010 - PÁPA AIR BASE, Hungary - Four airmen of the HAW graduated from Mission Security Forces’ course on Friday. The ceremony was held at Flag Park of Pápa Air base. The aircraft security specialists are known as Heavy Airlift Wing C-17 Security, or HAWCS.

First non-US C-17 pilot qualifies to became Aircraft Commander
18/9/2010 - PAPA AIR BASE, Hungary – It’s been a career of firsts for Major Christian Langfeldt, Royal Norwegian Air Force. He was among the first of Heavy Airlift Wing’s non-US pilots to graduate from the C-17 pilot course in May 2009. On Saturday Major Langfeldt became HAW’s first non-US C-17 pilot to qualify to become an Aircraft Commander. He will fly his first mission as an Aircraft Commander in three weeks.

Heavy Airlift Wing celebrates wing’s first anniversary
27/7/2010 - PAPA AIR BASE, Hungary - In order to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the activation of the Heavy Airlift Wing, the wing received its fourth C-17 on Tuesday. The new addition to the fleet was produced by the Mess Hall’s kitchen and it was made of marzipan, flour and sugar.
