LSS Commander biography
Captain Commander Costel Gavrila is the Commander, Logistics Support Squadron, Heavy Airlift Wing, C-17 Strategic Airlift Capability— Pápa Air Base, Hungary. As LSS Commander, he directs every aspect of HAW maintenance, aerial port, supply, and life support to sustain the SAC’s $5 billion dollar Partner for Peace and NATO program. He is responsible for the health, welfare, training & morale of 43 assigned logisticians and support personnel from 12 SAC Nations. Capt.Cmdr. Gavrila also maintains squadron and wing readiness for worldwide employment aircraft worth over $1 billion dollars. He maintains HAW logistical capabilities to support NATO, EU, PfP, UN & DOD combat, humanitarian, airdrop and airland operations.
Capt.Cmdr. Gavrila was born September 12, 1967 in Maicanesti, Vrancea County, Romania. He is a graduate of Romanian Military Technical Academy in 1990, received his commitment as officer. His first assignment was at 57th Fighter Air Force Base, as maintenance officer. Since 1990 he has been appointed in different positions within Romanian Air Force. Before joining the Heavy Airlift Wing he was holding the positions as Chief Engineer of 863th Helicopter Squadron, Fetesti Air Force Base, Romania.
During his career, Capt.Cmdr. Costel Gavrila, attended various courses, all of them designated to improve his professional profile and to cover the whole range of maintenance and logistics operations activities.
Capt.Cmdr. Costel Gavrila is married and has one son.
