The Logistics Support Squadron (LSS)
The Logistics Support Squadron does it all! We have all elements of the support structure for C-17 operations in one organization. We are a hybrid squadron of Maintenance Flying Crew Chief; Vehicle Management and Quality Assurance Evaluators; Supply and Life Support; and Aerial Port personnel.
From October 2008, our multinational team started running and the marathon is continuing as we set up the base infrastructure and all the programs we are responsible for. Our duties include ensuring proper aircraft maintenance is done; whether with our Quality Assurance section overseeing the Boeing Contracted Logistics Support Maintenance contract or our Flying Crew Chiefs traveling with the aircraft to perform maintenance at en-route locations.
Our Supply professionals work in conjunction with the Boeing Company to ensure parts and support equipment are available to the aircraft maintainers, both at home station as well as en-route. Additionally, we ensure Aircrew Flight Equipment is maintained for the safety of the aircrew. Vehicle Management ensures our vehicles are in top condition for licensed drivers to use.
Finally, the Aerial Port ensures safe loading and unloading of passengers and cargo at home station and ensures compliance with Dangerous Goods Regulations at all aerial ports where we pick up cargo. In addition to all these items, we work continuously with the Host Base and civilian authorities on many support issues to include fuels, ground transportation, customs and other services provided by the Host Base of Pápa and local authorities.
